About us
In January 2006, the consortium led by GVK Group and comprising Airports Company South Africa and Bidvest was awarded the mandate to modernize India's busiest airport, the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) at Mumbai.

Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd. (MIAL), a joint venture company owned by the GVK led consortium (74%) and Airports Authority of India (26%) was formed in March 2006 to manage and develop CSIA.

The modernization of CSIA assumes great significance given Mumbai's status as India's financial capital and its aspirations to become a key business centre in Asia. In FY of 2008-2009, CSIA catered to 24.3 million passengers and handled around 530,278 tonnes of cargo.

MIAL's vision is to make CSIA a truly world-class airport and equip it with the best possible facilities, infrastructure and management.

With the objective of upgrading the infrastructure and services at CSIA, MIAL has engaged well-known international experts in airport design and operations. In the next 4 years, MIAL plans to transform CSIA into an international landmark benchmarked on global standards of airport operations. As part of the master plan, a brand new terminal equipped with latest systems and technology has been proposed at Sahar.

MIAL also plans to significantly improve the cargo facilities at CSIA. A new integrated cargo complex is being planned, which will be equipped to cater to all kind of goods including perishables and agri-produce.

With the upgradation of the infrastructure, CSIA will be able to cater to passenger traffic of 40 million passengers per year and handle cargo traffic of 1 million tonnes per year.

MIAL has developed and launched a visual identity for Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. The new identity is derived from the form of a peacock feather into which the acronym 'CSIA' is woven seamlessly. It captures three essential attributes: Pride in India, People and Service and Global Standards. This is the first time that an airport in India has been given an identity of its own.
