Launch of Mumbai-Brussels operations by Brussels Airlines
Brussels Airlines commenced non-stop operations between Mumbai-Brussels with effect from 30th March 2017. The airline operates five times a week on A330-200 aircraft with 272 seats (22 Business and 250 Economy). This is for the first time that a Belgian airline has landed in the Asian continent. Also, the commencement of Brussels Airlines operations from CSMIA has further strengthened the Star Alliance presence out of Mumbai. A welcome ceremony was arranged by MIAL to welcome the 1st flight of Brussels Airlines at CSMIA.

Launch of Mumbai-Kigali operations by RwandAir
RwandAir commenced non-stop operations between Mumbai-Kigali on 4th April, 2017. RwandAir operates 4 weekly flights using B738 with 154 seats (16 business, 18 premium economy and 120 economy). MIAL organized a welcome ceremony for the VIPs, crew and passengers of RwandAir at arrivals and departures to celebrate the launch of operations.
Mumbai-Kigali is the maiden flight of RwandAir in Asian region and launch of this flight further positions Mumbai as a gateway to Africa. The event was graced by High Commissioners of Rwanda and Uganda to India and other consuls from the High Commission of The Republic of Rwanda and Uganda, and senior officials from RwandAir.

CSMIA welcomes its 1st Airbus 350-900 aircraft by Ethiopian Airlines
The world’s most modern aircraft, the Airbus 350-900 XWB was flown in at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for the first time on 7th April, 2017 by Africa’s leading carrier, the Ethiopian Airlines on 7th April, 2017. The luxurious aircraft will fly daily and serve passengers on the direct Mumbai – Addis Abba route.
The aircraft promises to enhance flyer experience by providing superlative features and cabin interiors that include latest high-definition touch screen, personal monitors with a wide selection of movies, wider seats and windows, advanced air conditioning technology and full LED mood lighting, to mention a few. With the fuselage and wing strictures made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, the jetliner reportedly has the lowest twin engine noise level with 25 % lower emission levels. Weighing 280 tons, the modern and environmentally friendly long haul aircraft boasts of seating 325 passengers over a 15,000 km range.

GVK Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Limited (MIAL) has been recently awarded Second Place as ‘Highly Commended Airport for Marketing’ in the Asia Pacific region in the over 20 million passengers category at the Routes Asia Marketing Awards 2017. The esteemed award was presented to MIAL by the Chief Guest of the networking evening, Mr. Steven Small, Brand Director, Routes, and received by Mr. Raveen Pinto, Vice President Aero-Marketing, MIAL in Okinawa, Japan. MIAL is only Indian airport to be shortlisted for the award in in recognition of its overall strategic marketing approach to attract new airlines and new routes.
MIAL’s efforts over the past year, whether in terms of marketing and communications activities, or the use of innovative technologies to support airlines, have successfully culminated in the addition of six new global destinations at CSMIA. Since 1997, the Routes Marketing Awards have honored excellence in airport marketing as voted by the airline community, based on the services offered to them over the course of the year. A Big Thank You to all the CSMIA airline partners for voting the MIAL Marketing Team for this International Award.

GVK CSMIA conducts full scale mock Emergency drill ‘Operation Black Panther’ at Mumbai Airport With a view to examine the prudence and efficacy of the emergency response plan to cope with an aircraft emergency, Mumbai International Airport Limited (GVK MIAL) conducted a first-of-its-kind, four-hour long, full scale aerodrome exercise called "Operation Black Panther" successfully executed on 9th March, 2017 at Mumbai International Airport.

GVK MIAL held the 4th International Flower Show in association with the Mumbai Rose Society, a first by any Indian airport, showcased more than 40 varieties of flowers, 30 varieties of medicinal plants, 30 varieties of Bonsai and rare carnivorous plants, amongst other species, across an area of 3000 sq. ft. space curated by the GVK botanical gardens.

In an effort to promote aviation Health and Safety, MIAL observed Health and Safety Week – 2017 from 06th to 09th March 2017. With the objective to raise safety awareness amongst the employees and to promote action around key factors which have a major impact on preventing accidents and injuries. During the Safety Week various Safety programs were conducted. Safety Seminar involving major stakeholders was held at Hotel Taj Santacruz on 06th & 07th March 2017 wherein eminent speakers from DGCA, ATC, Airlines and MIAL shared their insights on latest best practices, innovations and challenges being faced by Aviation community.
