Launch of Mumbai-Bali flights by Indonesia AirAsia X
Launch of Mumbai-Brussels operations by Brussels Airlines
With an endeavor to further strengthen connectivity between India and Indonesia, on 18th May, 2017, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport welcomed Indonesia AirAsia X on connecting Mumbai to Bali using 377-seater A330-300. The air connectivity will help in meeting the massive air travel demand between India and Indonesia. Mumbai is the only city in India providing air connectivity to Indonesia and Indonesia AirAsia X is the 2nd Indonesian carrier operating at Mumbai. In FY2017, the number of tourists visiting Indonesia from India was 350,000 and this number is only expected to double by 2019.
A welcome ceremony was conducted by MIAL and the event was graced by Captain Sulistyo Nugroho Hanung, CEO of Indonesia AirAsiaX; Mr. Saut Siringoringo, Consul General Republic of Indonesia to India and other senior officials from the airline and Consulate office and other delegates of the Indonesia embassy.
Brussels VVIP Flight
Brussels VVIP Flight
A VVIP delegation from Brussels arrived on 24th April, 2017, comprising Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, other officials from his office and CEO of Brussels Airlines. A welcome ceremony was arranged for the VVIPs by MIAL. The event was also graced by Mr. Jan Luykx, Ambassador of Belgium in New Delhi and Mr. Peter Huyghebaert, Consul General of Belgium.
Seasonal Flights by Bhutan Airlines and Druk Air between Mumbai and Paro
Bhutan Airlines operated twice weekly seasonal flights between 15th May, 2017 and 30th June, 2017 on Mumbai-Paro route. Also, Drukair operated 4 weekly seasonal flights on Mumbai-Paro route during the same time period.
IndiGo starts Mumbai-Doha Non Stop Service
On 5th May, 2017, IndiGo commenced its Mumbai-Doha flight. With this addition, there are now 25 weekly flights between Mumbai-Doha.

Passengers Day
Passengers Day MIAL completed 11 years on 3rd May, 2017 and this day is also celebrated as Passengers Day at CSMIA. The airport wore a carnival-like look as enthusiastic passengers participated in interactive games and activities. Tarot Card Reading, Karaoke and Gravity Booth were some of the exciting activities that kept passengers busy during their wait at the airport.

The performance of Jugglers, Stilt Walkers, Live Statue Artists and Street Magicians was a visual treat for the passengers. Also, a live guitarist created the perfect ambience for the celebrations, taking the passengers into a different world with soothing music.

Jaya He Museum Week
In order to further elevate the airport experience, Jaya He GVK New Museum launched the “Jaya He Safari” on 18th May, 2017 aka International Museum Day. This service was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Tourism & EGS, Government of Maharashtra, Shri. Jaykumar Rawal Sahib. These are specially curated museum tours for International and Domestic departing passengers. The Airport wait is put to good use with this fascinating Art Expedition that takes one on a special journey of timeless nation with overwhelming stories about the Arts and crafts of India. Also, Jaya He GVK New Museum was a proud participant of ICOMs (International Council of Museum) International Museum Day 2017.

Mumbai International Airport celebrates World Environment Day
MIAL celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June,2017. During the course of the event, environment experts interacted with kids, for the launch of a book titled ‘The Peepal, the girl and the city’, based on the airport’s botanical garden spread across 90,000 sq.m of green landscape, which has 77,000 plants of 100 plus species. The exhibition of recycled bags stressed on the importance of making the optimum utilisation of available natural resources. MIAL diligently follows its philosophy of sustainable living and its effort of minimizing stress on the environment has resulted in remarkable reduction of carbon emissions. The carbon emissions at the busiest airport in the country have lowered from 2.93 kg per passenger in 2014-15 to 2.56 kg per passenger in 2015-16.

Ms. Surabhi Rana is ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive for 2017
Ms. Surabhi Rana, GVK CSMIA has been named as the “ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year 2017” for her contribution towards the research paper ‘Challenges and Opportunities for Small and Emerging Airports in the 21st century’. ACI Asia-Pacific Young Executive of the Year Award is a research paper competition. A total of sixteen submissions were received this year and the papers were reviewed by a Panel of Judges chaired by Mr Emmanuel Menanteau, Co-CEO of Kansai Airports and Secretary Treasurer of ACI Asia-Pacific. Ms.Surabhi Rana’s submission captured viable and competitive solutions that may be considered by small and emerging airports. Congratulations for this marvelous accomplishment!
